Edit an EPUB and keep it readable
An EPUB is a package of XHTML chapters, styles, images and a reading order. A book can open while still containing broken links or navigation, so check both the package and the reading experience.
Before editing
Keep an original copy. Batchmint supports reflowable, unencrypted EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 books. Fixed-layout and DRM-protected books need a different workflow.
After changing chapters
- Review chapter order and contents levels; open several links from the table of contents.
- Check images, captions and meaningful alternative text. Confirm that the cover is correct in a reader library.
- For Arabic books, inspect both right-to-left text and page-turn direction in a reader.
- When splitting a book, open each output part. Links to chapters outside that part cannot remain active.
Validate, then read
Batchmint's built-in checks find common metadata, asset and chapter problems. For a formal package check, run the free W3C EPUBCheck on the exported file. Then open it in the reader apps your audience uses. Passing EPUBCheck does not guarantee identical layout across readers or devices.
